International activities

IFRIMA, the International Federation of Risk Management and Insurance Associations, is a global umbrella non-profit organization that represents risk management associations around the world. It consists of more than 20 regional and national associations from more than thirty countries, each of which brings its own unique views and experience to solving global problems related to risks and insurance and increasing the importance of the profession of risk manager.

The main goal of IFRIMA is to ensure interaction and communication between associations and their members. This allows for the exchange of best practices, innovative solutions, and in-depth discussions on risk management and insurance.

IFRIMA at the IRMSA Conference 2025

IFRIMA members gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa, on October 1-3, 2025 for the IRMSA Conference, workshop and award presentation of the competition, organized at the Gallagher Convention Center. This Conference is one of the flagship events of IFRIMA 2025, which brought together leading experts in the field of risk management.  For three days, interactive discussions and thematic sessions were held to discuss issues of creating a more sustainable global community in the field of risk management.

The meeting of the IFRIMA Board of Directors, held on October 2, 2025, provided an additional opportunity to communicate, share news and coordinate global initiatives.

The Risk Management Institute of South Africa (IRMSA) is a professional risk management organization in South Africa, recognized by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and represents companies and managers involved in risk management. 

IRMSA is engaged in the development of the profession and certification of risk managers through research, professional development, training and other activities organized with other institutions and associations. IRMSA was formed by the merger of the Society of Risk Managers (SRM), formed in March 1990, and the South African Association of Risk Management and Insurance (SARIMA), held in April 2003.

In November 2004, IRMSA was registered as a non-profit organization with the Department of Social Development. Number of members (corporate and individual)  It grew from 1,165 in 2014 to 3,374 in 2025.

In 2014, the certification of risk management Specialists (CRM Prac) started. By 2022, the number of certified specialists has increased to 120. In 2024, a joint project on certification of risk managers was launched with RIMS.

IRMSA is a member of IFRIMA, and organizes the work of its Secretariat and media support for its activities (website, social media groups, messengers, and quarterly newsletters).
