Results of the Xth Risk Management Conference at St. Petersburg State University of Railways

On November 14-15, 2024, the X Scientific and Practical Conference “RISK MANAGEMENT” was held at the St. Petersburg State University of Railways of Emperor Alexander I.: NEW CHALLENGES, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS” (RISK-E-2024).

The conference was organized with the support of the Russian Society for Risk Management Association (RusRisk), the Central Economic and Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (CEMI RAS), JSC Infotex, JSC Perspective Monitoring and the Faculty of Management of St. Petersburg State University of Economics. The sponsor of the conference is JSC “Perspective Monitoring”.

Information partners of the Conference: The Scientific and Practical Journal on Risk Analysis and Management “Problems of Risk Analysis” (K1, Higher Attestation Commission) and the International Journal in the field of Economics, Business and Management “Strategic Decisions and Risk Management” (Higher Attestation Commission).

The Conference was personally attended by Victor Vladimirovich Vereshchagin, President of RusRisk, Chairman of TC 010 Risk Management of Rosstandart, Dmitry Aleksandrovich Pashkovsky, Director of the Risk Management and Internal Control System Development Department of GAZPROM, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Scientific Director of the Department of Economic Security and Risk Management of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Ivanovich Avdiysky, Director of Development Sergey Vladimirovich Sadovnikov of the PMSOFT Group of Companies and Yulia Petrovna Burdina, Head of the Department of the Russian Institute of Standardization, Executive Secretary of TC 010 Risk Management.

In his welcoming speech, RusRisk President Victor Vladimirovich Vereshchagin, in particular, noted that the annual scientific and practical conference on risk management at the St. Petersburg State University of Railways of Emperor Alexander I is noticeably distinguished not only by the high professional level of the participants, but also by the deeply scientific level of the presented domestic developments in the field of risk management. In the context of ensuring technological sovereignty and sustainable development of the national economy, this becomes extremely important.

The Conference participants were particularly interested in the innovative project of the national standard GOST R Risk Management, developed by PGUPS together with RusRisk. Project Risk Management (revised edition), which contains new scientific achievements in the field of risk management and internal control. The main provisions of the draft standard and a summary of feedback on the project were presented by the author of the project, member of the RusRisk Supervisory Board, University Professor Sergey Gennadievich Oparin.

Thanks to the support and participation of renowned experts and leading experts in risk management and internal control at the Conference, the University has acquired and is constantly increasing its competencies in the rather complex, strategically significant and knowledge-intensive field of risk management, acquiring new knowledge, skills and abilities.

Over the years of preparation and holding of the Conference, the University has established and is successfully developing a scientific and educational school of risk management based on digital technologies, headed by Professor Oparin Sergey Gennadievich and which has received recognition from the expert community in Russia and abroad. During this period, seven candidates of science have been trained in the field of risk management, 10 monographs and more than 250 scientific articles have been published in leading peer-reviewed Russian and foreign journals, including Scopus and Web of Science databases. The obtained scientific results and their practical applications are being introduced into the educational process of master’s and postgraduate students, who are being taught the basics of a high culture of risk management.

Since 2014, the University has opened master’s degree programs in Project and Risk Management (Management) and Enterprise Economics and Value Engineering (Economics), where graduates of the Master’s degree develop professional competencies in the field of risk management in accordance with the requirements of professional standards.
