RusRisk Seminar “Current issues of insurance protection for large industrial companies”
On March 27, 2025, the work of the permanent seminar of the Russian Society for Risk Management “Current issues of insurance protection for large industrial companies” was continued at the MGIMO (U) site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The topic under discussion was defined as “The settlement of large losses in the corporate sector: complex cases, assessment of losses from production interruption, the impact of sanctions.”
The discussion was moderated by A.N. Elokhin, First Vice-President of RusRisca, and Prof. K.E. Turbina, Head of the Department of Risk Management and Insurance at MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
In his welcoming speech, V.V. Vereshchagin, President of RUSRISK, thanked the MGIMO Department of Risk Management and Insurance for their cooperation, and recalled the future RusRisk Forum (Sochi, September 4-5, 2025) and the “Best Risk Management in Russia – 2025” Competition held within the framework of the Forum.
K.E. Turbina noted that the seminar has been held at the MGIMO (U) site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation since 2021 and is of great interest to students.
A.N. Elokhin stressed that recognized professionals take part in the discussions, so the seminar is useful not only for students, but also for participants in the insurance market, as originally conceived by RusRisk.
A.V. Lebedev, CEO of Matthews Daniel (Rus) LLC, focused on the problems of settlement of complex insurance claims: methodological approaches, “gray areas” in insurance contracts and the specifics of their resolution. His report also assessed the impact of the policyholder’s unresolved losses on the conditions for organizing/resuming insurance coverage in the context of market turbulence.
In a message from M.S. Vasiliev, Deputy General Director of Matthews Daniel (Rus) LLC, the specifics of the settlement of claims for insurance compensation for production interruptions were considered. The speaker elaborated on the specifics of the settlement in modern conditions, including taking into account the refusal/delays in the supply of imported equipment for the restoration of production facilities.
B.V. Osipov, Adviser to the President and Chairman of the Board of RNPC on the settlement of large losses, gave numerous practical examples of the settlement of losses on corporate types of insurance, spoke about the results of the conference on risk assessment and loss settlement “RISKS&CLAIMS-2025”.
During the discussion, the speakers answered numerous questions, and the participants made suggestions on the topics of future discussions.
K.E. Turbina and A.N. Elokhin briefly summarized the results of the seminar, noting the high professional level of the discussion.
The seminar was attended by over 100 people (including online participants). Among those who registered were representatives of large companies (Norilsk Nickel, GAZPROM subsidiaries, Tatneft, Sovcomflot, Russian Post, etc.), insurance companies and brokers (SOGAZ, Turikum, Elbrus, etc.).
