On October 1-3, 2025, the President of RusRisk participated in the Conference of the Institute of Risk Management of South Africa (IRMSA) and the meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Risk Management and Insurance Associations (IFRIMA).
The Johannesburg conference brought together more than 500 participants from Africa and guests from America, Europe and Asia and was held under the motto of improving the effectiveness of risk management to ensure sustainable development. The plenary sessions, seminars and workshops discussed practical and innovative approaches in the field of risk management (geopolitical, economic, technological, natural, social, regulatory and others), strengthening the leadership of risk managers in achieving the objectives of sustainable development and business continuity of companies and organizations, prospects for the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and others. innovative technologies in the future of risk management.
The conference participants paid great attention to discussing the development of risk management in South Africa and on the African continent, as well as interaction with international, regional and national associations in the field of risk management. For the first time, representatives of the newly created FAPRA Association, which brought together more than 10 associations from African countries, participated in the conference.
It should be emphasized that IRMSA is one of the largest in the world (after the American-Canadian Association RIMS and the Nigerian CRMI) in terms of number (almost 3,400 individual and corporate members) and actively implements risk management methods and tools in government, business and public activities in South Africa and African countries, including in the field of education and certification.
The President of RusRisk discussed with colleagues from the BRICS countries and others the possibilities and areas of cooperation.
The conference also included a meeting of the IFRIMA Board of Directors, which was devoted to the current activities of the International Federation (amendments to the Charter, activation of work on social networks and on the website, financial issues, etc.) to strengthen its role in assisting regional and national associations to improve risk management practices, new certification projects, surveys, a report on global perspectives of risk management, etc. The meeting heard reports from members of the Board of Directors, including RUSRISK, on the most important aspects of risk management development in their countries and regions.
A touching moment of the impressive closing ceremony of the conference and the awarding of the winners of the IRMSA competition was the presentation of a special commemorative prize to the family of Gert Cruywagen, one of the founders of IRMSA and President of IFRIMA, who passed away two years ago. Gert was a great friend of RusRisk, he repeatedly spoke at our forums, held master classes and meetings with students in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
In general, participation in the conference of the Institute of Risk Management of South Africa and the meeting of the Board of Directors of the International Federation was interesting and useful and should contribute to strengthening professional cooperation and the development of risk management in our country and in the world.
